82
years ago, on August 26th, 1923, the most Reverend Edward J.
O’Dea, Bishop of Seattle,
blessed and dedicated St. Anne School to the service of God
and the Church. The eight grades, taught by the Sisters of the
Holy Names, opened on September 4, 1923 with an enrollment of
150 students.
St. Anne School, today, serves a student body of approximately
250 students from Pre-K to eighth grade, and is staffed by a
committed faculty of certified teachers, specialists, counselors
and administrative staff.
Our
faith tradition holds that St. Anne is revered as the mother
of Mary. Her patience and loving wisdom is a symbol of the guidance
and direction this community showers upon its children. As the
patron saint of grandparents, St. Anne also represents the rich
educational tradition of past generations that still lives on
in today’s student.
Who exactly is this community that calls itself St. Anne School?
We are a community of believers, learners, and doers.
Throughout our rich 82-year history, we have remained strong
and viable throughout the years because the basis for our existence
is our Catholic faith. We have continued to pass this faith
on to generations of students through our teaching and our example.

Our
school has a primary focus on student learning with a commitment
to high educational
achievement. This emphasis on excellence, within the context
of a strong sense of community, motivates our students to achieve
academically. This achievement is reflected in their performance,
not only on standardized tests, but on the fact that our students
are able to get into the high school of their choice. Quite
frequently we receive compliments from high school administrators
on the quality of our students.
We learn life’s important lessons by “doing”.
Our students are boys and girls “for others”. They
are actively involved in service within our parish community
and in the wider community through “hands on” experiences.
Kindergarteners can be seen delivering a wagon filled with food
to the Queen Anne Food Bank. Eighth graders prepare, deliver
and serve a spaghetti dinner to the First Ave. Service center.
Our entire school participates in the December holiday dinner
for the homeless and in “Rebuilding Together Seattle”
in April. At St. Anne we believe service that is “lived”
becomes a habit for a lifetime.
Our school has an ethos of caring and sharing between staff
and students based on trust and respect. Everyone students come
in contact with lets them know they are valued. Teachers know
most of the students by name. We have worked hard to build a
“supportive and nurturing culture” that promotes
and sustains spiritual development and educational excellence.
